Mortgages are yet to be introduced in Nepal. Banks and other financial companies are already providing higher purchase schemes but not exactly a mortgage. Keeping client’s assts as collateral they are provided loan under higher purchase schemes to buy vehicles, home appliances and land and buildings. The rate of interest varies according to different loan providers. Due to high competition the rate of interest has down to zero percent on a loan which is beneficial to general public or clients. The potential of mortgage in Nepal is very large, only some big cities of Nepal have been focused in this regard. If all the remote areas could also be included, it would be helpful in raising the level of people. Perhaps some day all those banks here in Nepal will come up with mortgage plans as the only institutions doing great in Nepal’s financial market are banks. I too look forward to mortgage a Harely Davidson in the near future.
