Only today I happened to see a very interesting call, a bid or an opportunity which is the only of it's kind that I had ever seen in a newspaper. It was a notice calling for a partner who would invest upon an already running bank for expansion. The bank which is a development bank plans to convert it into a commercial bank in the near future and was looking for investors. Commencing a development bank here is easier and needs far less capital than those required of commencing a commercial bank. This shows that banking sectors are the one and only flourishing sector in Nepali economy. There are so many new banks coming in operation and all the old banks are busy expanding their branches in and around the capital. I have even come to know about a small co-operative financial institution applying to convert it into a bank as they had accumulated a lot of capital through interest and loan. The common thing about all these banks are that they are focussed towards the capital rather than expanding themselves within the rural areas. So investment in banking sector could make anyone a good fortune in Nepal. This trend could remain in the economy for a long time however it won't be that fruitful in the long run.
