The scarcity of petrol in the nation seems to an artificial one. There are many people and organizations or groups involved in selling petrol for hundred rupees per liter. No matter what the quantity is, it is available if you are willing or can afford to pay Rs.100.00 per liter.
The petrol dealers were to start an unlimited strike for not getting sufficient petrol as to meet the daily supply and the dealers had to stay in a queue to wait for their turn. Only yesterday the government and the petrol dealers had a 17 point agreement due to which the petrol dealers called off their strike.
In spite of this scarcity, petrol is easily available but the price is really high. People are obliged to buy such expensive petrol and there are so many people who are making good money from this trade. It is justifiable to hike the price of petroleum products as the international market has also seen the rise in the price of petroleum products. The price had reached over hundred dollars per barrel. So the hike in price of petroleum is understandable. But when the price decreases in the international there are no such steps taken by our local government and Nepal Oil Corporation to reduce the current hiked price. So, the general public has always been the victim when it comes to consumption of petroleum products. And petroleum products have always to be bought from India as there isn’t any other source of producing petrol in the country. The plans and policies of the government and Nepal Oil Corporation are also vague as there are so many countries besides India who are showing interest in exporting petroleum products to Nepal .
