The potential of Hydro power in Nepal is very high. Many international companies are keen on investing on hydro power projects in Nepal. Recently the government has announced to let foreign companies to operate the hydro power projects which include Upper Karnali and Arun the third. The ministry council will be handing over the license to that contractor who could avail more free electricity. In this run the G.M.R. is in the priority list with other companies like Jindal, Reliance and Larson and Turbo.

The government had issued bids to those companies in two different categories. They were, free avail of electricity and the share investment. In this bid, G.M.R. will be providing 7.5 % of the total generated electricity from Upper Karnali and 15% from Arun Third. G.M.R. will also be investing 33% share in the Upper Karnali Hydro Project. Till date G.M.R. is in the top of the list in the priority list.

So the government has decided to hand over the license to that company which provides more electricity for free and will invest a good share in this hydro power project.
