The S.L.C. board exams have concluded and the result is also out. Throughout the country, of the total of five hundred twenty eight thousand two hundred fifty seven examinees, a little higher than forty seven percent of the students have passed and are looking forward to joining college. With this, the colleges all over Nepal are now trying to get students attention and luring them with different offers and facilities. Every college is creating some kind of hype which helps them to enroll as many student s as possible. This particular time of the year can be taken as a peak season for colleges.
The advertisements in daily newspapers are mostly of colleges. Astonishingly there are so many colleges but choosing the right and the best college is a very difficult and confusing task for students and to their guardians too. There are very few colleges which are not involved in advertisements calling students for admission. They may lack advertisement budget or on contrary they don’t need advertisements because they have already established themselves as good colleges.
In addition there are no strict prohibitory rules on enrollment fees charged by colleges and hence students from middle and lower class families are deprived of getting higher education from renowned colleges which are normally very expensive. None of the colleges provide scholarship programs to deserving students and to add more woes to the situation, the Certificate Level of higher secondary levels have been discarded from government colleges. This leaves no option for students other than to choose expensive colleges. The guardians of the students have to bear a terrific financial burden if their spouses chose expensive colleges.
Looking at the college’s side, it is the right moment to make money and earn huge income. Only a handful of colleges provide good facility to its students according to the fee levied at the time of enrollment. The expensive charge can somehow be justified because they need to pay good amount of money to popular teachers, lecturers and professors as well. This makes college fees high to some extent.
All in all this time of the year is an opportunity for colleges to make money and is the threshold for students trying to achieve higher academic goals. It would be good if certain rules and regulations be implemented which would ease both the colleges and the student’s goal.
