Agricultural Investment

/

It’s about high time to go back to the primitive but with well equipped advanced technology. Agriculture has been hugely neglected and as the world has already seen billions and billions of money being spent on real estates and similar other sectors. It however does not mean that real estate investment is bad but it should have not been given much priority by ignoring agriculture. Food and shelter are the basic needs of human in which food comes prior to shelter. That’s why agriculture should be the main concern before thinking about real estate properties or other higher end products.

Big investors in Nepal seem to be more concentrated in agriculture these days. Some of the biggest corporate names like Chaudhary Group and Jyoti Group have already ventured their investment in farming. This is a good and well directed move which will prosper in the long run. Even the well renowned commercial banks have announced providing agricultural loan targeting all the farmers in Nepal. Some years ago a lot of banks used to float loans on higher purchase schemes and auto loans which have now completely diminished. Things have slowly changed and these banks along with big corporate houses seem to be very much interested in agriculture.

The presence of Agriculture Development Bank in Nepal is good enough to prove the fact that Nepal’s policy makers had some good plan and policies. Sadly, that institute seems to be unable to perform its duty according to its potential. They have not been able to reach all the farmers and provide facility. Now the scenario has been changing for good. Several commercial banks are in a competitive run to meet the demands of farmers and facilitate them. This is a very positive plan and it would be better if more and more banks could come up with plans to invest in agriculture. Their investment would be more fruitful if they could help boost agricultural colleges by floating loans to produce skilful and scientific methodology in farming.
