Doleshwor Mahadev

/

The office was partially closed because most of the staffs were absent due to Rakhi. Having nothing to do for the whole day I decided to go somewhere I had never been before. Recently a friend of mine had once mentioned about Doleshwor Mahadev in Bhaktapur. According to him the way to that shrine is so beautiful with greens on either sides and this exact description lured me more than anything else. My fellow colleague Krishna was thinking of returning home as there was no work in the office and I had to convince him a lot to go to Doleshwor with me. Neither Krishna nor I had any idea about the location of Doleshwor which wasn’t a big issue anyway, so off we set out to the shrine.

The newly built road was a pleasant ride and it had less traffic due to the public holiday. We sped up the freeway and at Surya Binayak we took to the right, occasionally asking people about the location. A few metres away from the highway, dense, cool and fresh jungle welcomed us. The feeling was superb riding along those hilly tracks which immediately left the noisy, busy and chaotic city behind. And at the last junction we had to ask the locals and we were directed to a nasty looking alley to the shrine which did not at all look like we could ride through. After all we had to go through that rough asphalt steeply heading down. It was a terrible ride and immediately after reaching the bottom, the way again headed sharply up the hill. We almost fell off a gorge but somehow managed to lie at the safer side. I told my friend to get off and walk instead because I felt I am obliged to keep him away from any kinds of unseen yet obvious injuries. He had come with me on my insistence and thus if anything should happen to me, he is supposed to be safe. So I took off, up the steep hill alone. I fell off my bike several times with minor injuries but one was very terrifying. While accelerating over a stone my bike almost skidded off the road and down to the cliff but somehow I managed to control. And now that was the time when I was thinking or more precisely asking, ‘why so much trouble while I am on a pilgrimage? After playing with this query I thought to myself that I need to confront everything and reach the shrine anyhow. Wow! That’s my determination and I truly admire it. And finally after a rough and a very dangerous ride I reached the top and waited for my friend who was left behind. After several minutes he appeared and we went to the shrine together. From that place, beautiful green hills were visible which were obviously breathtaking and spell bounding. We savoured the serene beauty with cold drinks in our hand and spent quite sometime there.

Wow, the place was magnificent with no noise at all, no pollution and only fresh air and eye as well as mind pleasing greenery. I just missed a camera right then or else I could have captured all the beauty of the place. Finally we had to return but luckily the main outlet to the highway was different than the one we came through. The return was easy and after a few kilometres, we were again greeted by the noisy, dusty and chaotic streets of the city.
